How to play β’ quick reference
How to play (quick)
Euchre is a trick-taking game for 4 players in teams of 2. First team to
10
points wins.
Deal
: Everyone gets 5 cards. One card is turned up (the βturnedβ suit).
Bidding (Round 1)
: You can
order up
the turned suit as trump, or pass.
If ordered up
: The dealer must pick up the turned card and
discard
one card.
Bidding (Round 2)
: If all pass, you may
call
other suit as trump, or pass.
Stick the dealer
: If everyone passes again, the dealer must call trump (canβt pass).
Trump & the bowers
Trump beats non-trump. The two highest trump cards are the
bowers
:
Right bower
: Jack of trump (highest card).
Left bower
: Jack of the same color (2nd highest) β it counts as trump.
Example: if
Hearts
is trump, then
Jβ₯
is right bower and
Jβ¦
is left bower (and plays as a heart).
Playing
: You must follow the led suit if you can (remember: the left bower counts as trump).
Winning a trick
: Highest trump wins; otherwise highest of the led suit wins.
Going alone
: When you order up or call trump, you may choose to go alone (partner sits out).
Scoring
: Makers need 3 tricks. March (5 tricks) =
2
. Euchre (makers < 3) = defenders
2
. Loner march =
4
.
Difficulty
Difficulty changes how often the CPUs make mistakes and how consistent their choices are.
Easy
: makes more mistakes, more unpredictable.
Medium
: solid most of the time, occasionally bold.
Hard
: fewer mistakes, more consistent play.
